Glam Up Your Makeup Bag: July Ipsy Glam Bag Review

There are a lot of different beauty box subscriptions on the market, and I was inspired by Kristen’s monthly Birchbox reviews to offer a perspective on the Glam Bag for comparison.  Both are great subscriptions, and it can be hard to determine which one is right for youI spent hours researching and watching YouTube reveals and reviews before making my pick!

For those who are unfamiliar, the Glam Bag by Ipsy Beauty is a monthly beauty bag subscription that delivers samples of beauty products inside of a makeup bag to your door each month. It costs $10 per month, and the products you receive are determined by a quiz you take on your beauty preferences, your reviews of the products you receive each month, and a little bit on random chance. Each month, they offer varying discount codes for the companies that supplied the products so you can order full-sized versions of what you received or try out the other products offered that you didn’t get.

July Glam Bag 2

My bag this month was a little disappointing compared to the June bag and other previous months, but it still had a few hidden gems that made it worth it. The theme this month was “Sensationally Sunkissed,” and the makeup bag was a super cute neon pink style with scalloped edges, and one of my favorites so far. The samples were just smaller than usual, although they were more pricey products, so that makes sense.

Bare Minerals | 5-in-1 Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow| $18 Full Size

When I first saw the name of this eyeshadow, I was super confused and had no idea what it was for; the “5-in-1” threw me off. Once I tried it, however, it actually turned out to be the best item in this bag. The color I received (called Barely Nude) is great, and has enough pigment that it can be worn on its own (or as a primer). It also has SPF 15 sunscreen in it, which is nice. My only complaint with this one is that I wish it came with more!

Clear Clinic Laboratories | Vanished Spot Treatment | $35 Full Size

I’m always in search of new acne products, but have to be careful since I have sensitive skin. I tried this out and it seems to work about as well as anything else. It is faster than most products I’ve tried, and I like that it goes on clear and not thick so you can wear it under or over your makeup. It’s a convenient size for traveling, too.

Pixi Beauty | Mini Tinted Brilliance Balm | $14 Full Size

I wouldn’t call anything about the tint of this balm “brilliant.” I received the color “Unique Pink,” which the website calls “your own personal, pH reactive pink,” so perhaps it’s a me-problem, but when I wore it there was no tint whatsoever. So in terms of a tinted balm, this shade at least falls very short. As a lip balm in general, however, it’s fantastic. It goes on very smoothly and is more moisturizing than most balms I’ve tried. It also has a refreshing mint taste that doesn’t wear off immediately and feels cooling—a nice bonus in the hot summer weather!

Pur~Lisse | Pur~Protect Essential Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 | $55 Full Size

I received the non-SPF version of this moisturizer in my May Glam Bag, and have been using it every day since, so I was actually kind of excited to get this even though it’s sort of a repeat product so didn’t really allow me to try something new. I love this moisturizer. It goes on smooth and doesn’t feel super thick, and it leaves my skin feeling healthy and hydrated in the hot summer weather. This version has the added benefit of sunscreen. What’s not to like?

Models Own | Nail Polish in Red Sea | $6.75

I like the shade of this nail polish, especially for summer. I could do without the glitter though; it sort of made me feel like a twelve year old and didn’t look that great. In terms of quality, this also isn’t the best. It started flaking off the day after I painted my nails. It was also really thick and goopy, which was kind of a nightmare when trying to put it on. I’ve received a lot of different nail polishes in different Glam Bags and this was by far my least favorite. I wouldn’t recommend it, and you can only purchase it from their website (which is in euros) so this is definitely one to skip, as there are much better options out there.
