Apparently, pink is the new blonde.
Take a look at any celebrity’s Instagram feed, and seven times out of 10 you’ll see a picture with an unnatural color on their head. Pink. Purple. Blue. Orange. A mix of all four. You name any color under the rainbow and it’s probably been on someone’s head at one point or another.
They’re calling it the pastel hair trend and it’s coming in full force.

When I first started to see the crazy colors pop up earlier this year, I was amused. Of course these celebrities were doing it—they can do virtually anything they want with their look, no matter how extreme. Instead of it being considered “weird” they’re labeled as “edgy.”
For us normal folk, it’s usually a different story. Most of us care too much what others think. If we do want to dye our hair pink, we won’t admit it. And by we, I mean I. Who wants to show up to their corporate office job with some crazy do, am I right?
Well, apparently a lot of people do.
This trend is leaking out from its high-society beginnings to the real world. On the street, in the grocery store, in the gym. Normal women with abnormal hair colors are all over the place. It’s not crazy. It’s bold, daring, beautiful.
So here’s why this trend is catching on: anyone can do it. Any skin tone, any natural hair color, the rainbow is yours to choose from, darling.
Of course, there are some catches. First, if you have naturally very dark hair, to get any light color to stick you’ll have to start from scratch aka bleach the sh*t out of your locks. Maintenance afterwards can also be tricky. Invest in a really, really good leave in conditioner, (I use this) and some shampoo specifically made for color-treated hair.
If you go online, you’ll see ways to do this yourself. But please, if you can afford it, go to a professional. With something this bold, doing it at home can have disastrous effects. You don’t want your head to look like a two-year-old took a crayon to it.
Even the professional dye will fade quickly (four to six weeks) so have fun with it! If you want to prolong your bold style, was less and dry shampoo often. Just like a normal dye job, it will change and fade the more you wash it.
So if you’ve been questioning yourself, I say go for it! What’s the worst thing that can happen?
After all, it’s just hair.
