Calling all Harry Potter fans and stans! Have you been waiting for Harry Potter to get a makeup line inspired by the books and film franchise, in the way that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“ and “The Hunger Games“ have partnered with CoverGirl? Look no further; LASplash has answered your prayers.

Although the liquid lipsticks ($14) aren’t officially affiliated with The Boy Who Lived, the company doesn’t deny the association. David Sheen, CEO of the company that manufactures LASplash, told Refinery29: “LASplash Liquid Lipsticks are not a representation of Harry Potter or any of Harry Potter’s licensed products. However, we are absolutely inspired by Harry Potter and our color creation team are big fans.” With color names such as “Hermione,” “Sirius,” “Luna,” and “Ravenclaw,” it would be disingenuous to say that Rowling’s characters were not a factor in the makeup line. The company has since changed the names to avoid confusion.

With 17 varying shades, there’s a lipstick for every mood. The matte lipsticks can last through quite a few Diet Cokes, but it should be noted that some of the formulas have a faint smell. A representative for the company has addressed this concern and assured me that they’re working on it. The formula is on the creamier side but seems to be on the thinner side when completely dry. I recommend that before applying the lipstick, prep your lips with a primer or even a few seconds of buffing your lips with a toothbrush to exfoliate. If your lips are extremely dry, the lipstick will only aggravate it.

Truthfully, some of the less conventional shades are probably not compatible with or appropriate for my everyday life. On the other hand, the less extreme shades in the color family, such as the pinks, reds, and mauves, could easily be worked into a look. With fall in full bloom, the darker reds would complete a cat-eye and enhanced brows.

The company, which was founded in 2001 in Los Angeles, says that they are animal-friendly and that all color additives are FDA approved. Check their Instagram for previews of upcoming swatches.
