As a dedicated Taylor Swift fan, I feel I have heard all of the critiques of her. My favorite one is she only writes about relationships. While I would say that is probably 75-80% true, I don’t see anything wrong with that especially since I am pretty sure all of Adele’s music is all about relationships too and you don’t see anyone complaining…
I am here to change your perception of her music a little bit. I believe she has songs that, while they could be about a relationship, they could also be seen as something that has nothing to do with them either. Check out these 13 non-relationship-related moods that Taylor Swift could help you through. I think it might make you more of a Swiftie than you thought.
When you are completely content being cuddled up in bed listening to the sound of the rain outside.
Why: It could be because that it is raining in the music video but it is just one of those songs that makes you feel somber and want to stay under the covers.
Favorite lyric: “‘Cause I’m not your princess, this ain’t a fairytale, I’m gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well”
When someone criticizes you for being weird or just a slight bit different from everyone else.
Shake it Off
Why: Isn’t it obvious? Not only is this song totally a banger, but it also is a great reminder to shake those negative people off your shoulder and just keep doing you thing.
Favorite lyric: “And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, I shake it off, I shake it off”
When you become more successful than the people who used to bully you.
Why: You know the story about the popular girl/bully in high school who doesn’t end up being popular out in the real world? This song is a perfect reminder that while someone else is coming after you, you can go after the world and become bigger than her.
Favorite lyric: “Someday I’ll be big enough so you can’t hit me. And all you’re ever gonna be is mean.”
When someone betrays you.
Why: Whether your fight was as infamous like Taylor vs Katy Perry or slightly less dramatic, this song is perfect to scream at the top of your lungs in anger.
Favorite lyric: “Did you think we’d be fine? Still got scars on my back from your knife. So don’t think it’s in the past, these kinda wounds they last and they last.”
When people keep asking you “What do you want to do after you graduate?” and you have no idea.
A Place in this World
Why: One minute you are asking your teacher to go to the bathroom and the next you are told you need to have your life planned. Everyone finds their way at different speeds. Remember to go your own speed.
Favorite lyric: “I don’t know what I want, so don’t ask me. ‘Cause I’m still trying to figure it out. Don’t know what’s down this road. I’m just walking.”
When you meet up with your elementary school friends after you’ve graduated college and you spend three hours reminiscing about how easy life was back then.
Never Grow Up
Why: Whether you are 22 or 102, it’s easy to think about how simple life was when you were younger. So before it is too late, take advantage of how great life is now.
Favorite lyric: “So here I am in my new apartment. In a big city, they just dropped me off. It’s so much colder than I thought it would be. So I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on.”
When you need some motivation and energy to finish out your work out.
Why: This is more of a personal choice, but this is one of those songs that makes me smile every time I hear it and I always bust it out when I need a boost in a work out (or really anytime of the day).
Favorite lyric: “‘Cause, baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me.”
When it’s “New Year, New You” or whenever you are turning over a new leaf.
Why: There is a feeling that you get when you are starting something fresh and new that makes you feel clean. The lyrics and music just makes you feel like you are literally standing in the rain that is washing away all of the bad in your past.
Favorite lyric: “Rain came pouring down when I was drowning. That’s when I could finally breathe.”
When you just need a good cry.
Forever and Always (Piano Version)
Why: The key here is the piano version. The lyrics don’t make me cry. It is the music that is so soft and sad that makes you want to cry.
Favorite lyric: “‘Cause it rains in your bedroom. Everything is wrong. It rains when you’re here and it rains when you’re gone.”
When you need to belt T Swift at karaoke.
We Are Never Getting Back Together
Why: This is the perfect song to get up and belt your heart out with your best friends at a karaoke.

Sweeter Than Fiction
Why: This song is a great reminder that things get better as long as you try hard to lift yourself out of the pain.
Favorite lyric: “Someday you won’t remember, This pain you thought would last forever and ever, And there you’ll stand, ten feet tall.”
When you need to celebrate a victory.
Why: Yes, I occasionally dance around the house to this song. Listen to this song after you have accomplished something really difficult and look back at how far you came to achieve that moment.
Favorite lyric: “Long live the walls we crashed through. All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you.”
When you are driving with the windows down in the middle of summer.
Why: I love country music but for some reason it is even better when you are blasting it in your car on a summer day; windows down, wind in your hair, sunglasses on, ready for anything. This is my favorite original T Swift song that reminds me how much I love her.
Favorite lyric: “Our song is a slamming screen door, sneaking out late tapping on your window.”
