5 Really Important Things You Should Never Procrastinate

If you’re a procrastinator, you’re certainly not alone. It is very common to put off things we don’t want to do until “later.” Of course, later often never comes and these tasks will go undone forever. Sometimes this is ok, and procrastination is a natural part of life, especially if these things eventually get done.

However, there are certain things in life that you should never put off until later, for the good of yourself and others.

Applying For a New Job

According to one 2019 survey, over 10% of all UK workers are unhappy in their job. This means there are 4.3 million Brits going to work every day with a heavy heart, wishing they were somewhere else. It is all too common for unhappy weeks at work to stretch into months and even years, and before you know it you’ve been in a job you hate for much too long. If you’re not satisfied with your job, or if you dream of doing something different, don’t delay in applying for a new job. Finding the job of your dreams isn’t easy: it may take extra training, networking, or simply being persistent in the face of rejections until you eventually land the job you want. That is why you need to get started as soon as possible – take that energy you’re putting into the job you hate and put it toward finding something better!

Making Healthy Lifestyle Changes

Most of us have things we know we should change about our lifestyles, whether it is exercising more, eating better, quitting smoking, drinking more water, or improving our sleep patterns. These are also changes that are all too easy to put off until next month or next year. No one really wants to give up chocolate or hit the gym every day. However, these kinds of lifestyle changes can have incredible impacts to our health, and the sooner you make the change, the greater the impact will be. Research shows that a healthy lifestyle can add 14 years to women’s life expectancy and 12 years for men. This is all about looking after your health, and as the saying goes, if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything!

Getting an STI Test

When it comes to looking after your health, there is one other aspect that you shouldn’t forget: your sexual health. It is estimated that there are a large number of Britons with undiagnosed sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), with the most prevalent being chlamydia. Chlamydia, like most STI’s is easily treatable if caught early, but can lead to serious and even deadly complications in the long term if left untreated. Chlamydia is also asymptomatic in around 50% of cases for men, and 75% for women, meaning you may have the disease without knowing it. Book an appointment online at the Cardiff sex clinic and you will be able to have a professional, comprehensive and discreet check-up and screening. This will either give you peace of mind, or help you to identify any conditions so you can start treatment straight away.

Paying off Your Mortgage

Mortgage repayments can be a huge burden: a large chunk of cash that comes out of your pay cheque every month. It may be tempting to make only the minimum repayment every month, freeing up your funds for other things. However, making extra payments into your mortgage can represent huge savings in the long term, so this is something you should do now rather than putting it off by paying the minimum only. Many people pay the interest only when making repayments their loan, meaning they don’t even start to touch the principle loan amount for years. By increasing your regular monthly payments or making extra voluntary payments whenever you can, you will begin to reduce the principle sooner, and will pay much less interest overall. This could save you tens of thousands of pounds in the long term, and mean instead of paying your mortgage off in 25 years, you pay it off in 15 or even 10.

Taking a Big Trip

If you have always dreamed of going to the paradise islands of Thailand, seeing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or strolling down Fifth Avenue in New York City, stop dreaming and make it happen! There is no time like the present, and if you keep dreaming about it, it may never happen. Yes, a big trip can be expensive, and you may not have room in your budget for this. However, you will be surprised how much money you can put aside if you put your mind to it. With some discipline and perhaps a few sacrifices, you will be able to save up enough money for that trip you’ve always dreamed of in a relatively short amount of time.

First make a budget for your trip, to work out exactly how much you need to save. Then divide this amount by the number of months until you want to take the trip: this is how much you’ll need to save up each month. As soon as your salary hits your account every month, take this amount out and put it into a special savings account. Most banks will allow you to open multiple savings accounts so you can have one dedicated to your trip fund.  Before you know it, you’ll have magically saved up enough for your big trip!
