It’s only normal to get the itch to renovate some part of your home after living in it for a while. However, while you might feel like a change, you might not have any specific ideas. The latest trend in bathroom design is the undermount porcelain sink. This type of sink will help keep the countertop clear while leaving space for more storage or other important things like a toilet. If you’re thinking about renovating your bathroom, consider the following suggestions that can make it more stylish.
Decide on an appropriate layout
For starters, if you’ve decided to remodel your bathroom, you should determine what you want the final result to be. Is the bathroom currently not functional? This problem can indicate that you have an issue with the layout of the bathroom. With that in mind, you want to go through a few options and think about what would work best for you. For example, if the sink, toilet, and tub are all on the same wall, the practicality can be limiting. If you’re ready to set aside a bigger sum for this renovation project, you can rework some water lines and have these three fixtures all on different walls. This approach might be able to provide you with a more practical bathroom.
Make your tub the focal point
When renovating your bathroom, you might decide to add a tub or replace the current one. With that in mind, you want to think about making the tub the focal point of the space. Seeing as how there are countless types of bathtubs out there, it shouldn’t be difficult to find one that will match your overall aesthetic. For instance, if you’re trying to create a spa-like environment, you want a crisp white one. It can be either a clawfoot tub or a flat bottom one. On the other hand, if the rest of the bathroom is white, you can really make a statement with a tub in a bold colour like red, yellow, or green.
Ditch the tub for a shower
However, some people simply don’t have the need for a tub. In that case, you can ditch it altogether and use the space at your disposal for a practical shower. What is more, you can even take this to the next level by incorporating a wet area that will be all tiled up and separated by a glass panel. If you do this, your bathroom will look more stylish and even bigger than it actually is. Another thing to consider is adding a seating option in the shower, whether it’s a teak stool or a built-in bench.
Opt for statement tiles
No matter if you go with a shower or bathtub, you want some interesting tiles in the bathroom. Whether you opt to experiment with colour, design, shape, or pattern is up to you but keep in mind that there are some stunning options out there. For instance, you can opt for subway tiles, which are a timeless classic. However, you can also be bold by stacking tiles vertically, opting for hexagonal ones, or covering the floor and one wall of the shower in a starburst pattern.
Go with a hidden-tank toilet
If you’re going with a bigger renovation and changing the toilet as well, you should consider one with a hidden tank. That way, you will create a more elegant bathroom but also add some space. You can make the area above the toilet minimal and clear or you can use it for open shelving where you can store your organic cotton towels, toilet paper, and other supplies. While researching toilets, you should also look for a low-flush or dual-flush one, which will ensure you also conserve water and lower your bills.
Improve the lighting in the room
Most bathrooms aren’t lucky enough to be showered in natural light. So, if possible, look into adding a window to the room to make it brighter and easier to ventilate. However, as that is not always an option, you need to make sure there is proper artificial illumination. For starters, an elegant overhead fixture is a must. Then, you also need either LED panels or sconces around the mirror that will provide you with plenty of light when putting on makeup or shaving. Depending on the space, you can even use accent lights that will highlight an interesting feature of the bathroom. Lastly, if you want relaxing baths, you need a dimmer switch as well.
Switch out the hardware
Lighting fixtures come in all sorts so you will have an easy time matching them with the overall style of the bathroom. In addition to lights, you can also change other hardware around the room. When looking through bathroom supplies, you will find everything from faucets to soap and toothbrush holders to towel racks. One approach you can take here is having them all match and be in gold, black, chrome, or rose gold. On the other hand, you can also try your hand at mixing and matching finishes.
Think about storage
Regardless of the size of your bathroom, you need to think about storage. Fortunately, there are several ideas that you can incorporate into your design. For one, recessed medicine cabinets behind the mirrors will provide you with some necessary storage that is often overlooked, especially if you don’t want everything out in the open. Then, when looking for the perfect vanity, consider how much storage you need it to have. If you like your items behind closed doors, opt for a vanity that will hide rather than display them. Finally, we already mentioned open shelving above the toilet but you can put these kinds of shelves on any empty wall if you’re struggling with storage.
Install radiant floor heating
Although you might not be able to see this change, you’ll surely feel it. Radiant floor heating is a great solution to ensure you’re never cold in your bathroom. However, keep in mind that this should be done only if you’re changing the tiles as you don’t want to ruin the look of the bathroom and pay extra for having tiles installed again.
If you’re trying to make your bathroom more stylish, consider these ideas. Everything from statement tiles to proper lighting can have an immense effect.
