5 Simple Ways to Treat Acne, Eczema & Other Skin Conditions At Home

More than ten percent of the people in the United States suffer from a skin condition. Eczema is the leading one, but acne comes in a close second. 

Eczema can be annoying, especially when it is itchy. If you suffer from any skin condition, you should visit a dermatologist as they will have conclusive ways to deal with it. 

However, there are simple ways you can treat common skin conditions, and many have done it before you. 

Apply Aloe Vera Gel

The aloe plant has been known to have medicinal qualities for centuries. It also has a fantastic effect on the human skin. When cut and squeezed, the plant excretes a gel that can help with your eczema and even acne. 

Aloe vera gel has been shown to increase immunity and heal wounds. The gel has antimicrobial and antibacterial effects that can help you prevent skin conditions like eczema and acne. These conditions typically occur when you have dry skin, and aloe vera gel can make your skin look rejuvenated.

Treating Acne With Azelaic Acid

Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring acid in grains like barley and wheat. Cosmeticians can turn the acid into a topical exfoliating treatment that you can use to address various skin conditions, including acne. 

Most people know little to nothing about the acid, and even those that have heard about it will ask, ‘what does azelaic acid do?’ It helps with skin conditions because of its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. 

Inflammation in the skin is the leading cause of acne and other skin disorders. Depending on your preference, you can get Azelaic acid over the counter as a cream, gel, or lotion.

Use Apple Cider Vinegar

There are many household items you can use to address various skin disorders, and apple cider vinegar is one of them. The skin has relatively high acidity levels, and apple cider vinegar is highly acidic. 

People with skin disorders often have less acid in their skin than people with healthy skin. The apple cider could hence help balance the skin’s acidity levels. 

However, it would be best to exercise great caution when applying apple cider vinegar to your skin. Therefore, when using apple vinegar on your skin, you should dilute it. 

Otherwise, it might lead to burns and leave your skin looking a lot worse than it currently does.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal comes from finely ground oats that have been boiled to bring out its medicinal properties. 

You probably have highly inflamed skin if you have eczema, acne, or any other skin disorder. Colloidal oatmeal can help reduce the inflammation in your skin and reduce the symptoms you are experiencing. 

Several years ago, a study showed that colloidal oatmeal had antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, hence its soothing effect on the skin. You can apply a lotion or a cream that has colloidal oatmeal. 

You can also buy it in powder form and add it to warm water. Soak the inflamed skin in the solution for ten to fifteen minutes, which will soften your skin and relieve the itching. You should apply moisturizer to your skin after that.

Perform A Cold Compress

When you have acne or eczema, you often make the condition worse by scratching because your skin is inflamed. 

Cold has been shown to reduce inflammation in a variety of areas. Therefore, you should use cold compression to make your skin less itchy and make it part of your skincare routine

You can make a damp cloth with cold water or wrap it around an ice pack. Never place ice on your skin directly. Hold until you feel relief on the inflamed skin. 

There are several other simple ways to address skin conditions like eczema and acne at home. The above methods only scratch the surface.
