If you’re about to get married you are about to go on an exciting adventure. If you decide that you want an old-fashioned barn wedding, then there is a lot of planning that you need to do.

Planning everything carefully is the best way to make sure that your big day goes off without a hitch. Here’s a look at the major things you need to keep in mind when you are having a barn wedding.

Decide On Your Budget

The first thing you need to decide on when you are about to have a barn wedding is the amount of money you want to spend. This can help make it easier for you to narrow down the barn venues that you can afford. For more venue options, checkout ProudPrivateHire.com. With their selection of barns, farms, and outdoor venues, you’re sure to find the perfect place for your barn wedding.

Once you have decided on your budget, start looking around for places that will adhere to it.

Extras Will Be Needed

Due to the venue, many barn weddings will not be full service like they would be from other venues. This means that you’re going to have to prepare to bring in a lot of extras.

You will need to make arrangements to bring tables, chairs, dishes, and anything else you will need to make your guests comfortable.

It is also likely that your barn will not have proper lighting or generators, so you will need to solve that issue.

You may need to get a portable AC to cool down the venue. Make sure the windows are properly sealed too so you can keep cool air inside the barn. You may also need to get a custom barn door to help keep cool air in.

You will likely need to think about catering tents for serving food.

The bottom line is that you need to sit down and make a list of all the things that you’re going to need to make sure that the barn is as comfortable as possible for you and your guests.

Sound Ordinances

Even though a community may be rural this does not mean that they don’t have check valves when it comes to noise. You may not be able to go past a certain hour with your reception or after-party.

You need to check the local sound ordinances that are in place and make sure that you are compliant with them. The last thing you want is me in trouble with the law on your big day.

If there are houses near the barn chances are there will be tight restrictions. If the barn is far from homes you may get more lenient restrictions for sound.

You may want to consider having your wedding after-party at a nearby local restaurant or even a bar if it is available. You will probably be able to continue your party a lot longer in these venues.

Consider the Terrain

The terrain that’s around the bar you are planning to use is important. You don’t want to deal with terrain that is too rocky.

Your guests will need to park their vehicles and walk to the barn. You don’t want to have to deal with grounds that are filled with rocks and mud especially if you’re going to have elderly guests.

Just in case it rains you don’t want to have to deal with a muddy experience as this could cause inconvenience to your guest.

Handle the Bugs

Bugs are going to be an inevitable complication for your big day. You need to make sure that you are prepared for all the fireflies, crickets, ticks, ladybugs, and everything else that you may encounter when you have a barn wedding.

Make your guests as comfortable as possible. Be sure to have repellent readily available to give to them. You can have bug spray at any area where your guests will gather together.

It can make things uncomfortable for your family and friends when they have to constantly ward off one bug after another. This would make your big day difficult for them to enjoy.

Consider the Weather

You should have a tent on standby in case it rains. However, you may want to consider having parasols on hand as well as paper fans that your guests can use if the day is hot.

Help your guests choose a wardrobe that will make them the most comfortable. While you probably don’t want people showing up in jeans and a t-shirt, you do want to advise them that they should wear clothes that will help them to feel as comfortable as possible if the weather is going to be extremely warm.

You especially want to be careful when it comes to the selection of shoes at a barn wedding. This goes for both yourself and your guests. Even if you start in stilettos it’s always a good idea to have flats or flip-flops available to change into later on in the day.

You can also provide flip-flops for your guests as well. If you can’t afford to provide flip-flops, just ask your guests to bring their flats or flip-flops to change into.

Consider the Animals

Barns are made to house animals and if you are renting a barn that has animals nearby you need to make provisions for this. You need to ensure that for the period where the barn will be in use, the animals are properly kept in their area.

Some people may be allergic to different farm animals and already know that they are, others may find out on your wedding day if you’re not careful.

If there is hay present in the barn some people might be allergic to it. Cover it properly or get rid of it altogether.

While this is not the most fun part of your wedding you must take care of it when planning. You can have over-the-counter allergy medicine available so that people can take these if it becomes necessary.

Get the Restroom Right

No matter how wonderful the rest of the amenities are, if you don’t have proper restrooms your guests will be very uncomfortable, to say the least. You can rent portable toilets for this day if the barn does not have any kind of facilities close by.

Make sure that you take the time to make these rental toilets as comfortable as possible. Consider decorating them and make sure that they have beautiful soaps, paper towels, and other things that will make them as comfortable as possible.

Start Your Wedding Journey

Starting your wedding journey is an exciting occasion. If you decide to have a barn wedding it is, even more, special because you get to have a unique venue that you can make very special for the occasion.

All you have to do is just make sure that you are organized. You and your guests need to be as comfortable as possible, and you also need to stay within your budget while doing it.

Overspending is something you should be on the lookout for especially if money is in short supply. Decide on the things that you will want to spend the most on and the things that you want to spend less on. Stick to this no matter how tempting it may be to venture off into another direction.

Finally, start planning early so that you can avoid all the stress that can happen from planning this type of special event.
